 The Unity Candle lighting ceremony is symbolic of the joining together of two families and the formation of a new family. The mothers of the bride and groom traditionally light the two side candles, but any relative may do the honors. After the couple is joined, they will light the Center candle using the two side candles, symbolizing their union.  The Memory Candle is a symbolic remembrance of a deceased family member, usually a parent or grandparent of the bride or groom. Photos of the loved one, mementos, and flowers are usually arranged on a separate table or near the guest book table. The candle(s) will remain lighted until the end of the event.
